Product Description

The South Africa Medal was introduced in 1879. Queen Victoria gave permission in 1854 for the award to go to Those in the British Army who served in one of the three campaigns. In 1880 this was changed so that all troops who served in any of the campaigns should be awarded this medal.
It was decided that there would be clasps for the medal with the year or years that were served by the recipient in any of the campaigns.
This medal commemorates the tragic events at Ishandlwana as well as the famous defence of Rorkes Drift where 11 VC´s were won.
