Product Description

In 1832, at that time held by the Turks, was captured and destroyed by Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt.
On 4th November 1840 it was recaptured, by a combined British, Austrian and Turkish fleet commanded by Sir Charles Napier, for the Turks. The Sultan of Turkey, Abdul Mejid I, issued a medal in commemoration of this event.
It was issued in gold to Captains of the Navy and Field Officers of the Army, in silver to other officers and in a bronzed copper to seaman and marines. A few artillery officers and men who accompanied the expedition also received the medal.
